8 limbs Yoga Philosophy and Meditation Course - taught by Gregor Maehle
Duration: 6 months, 1.5 hours weekly
When: Fridays at 5pm
joining possible anytime (without homework and examination)
Where: 220 Carr Place, Leederville
What:

We will chant in Sanskrit, 1-3 stanzas per class from the scripture we are working on. An explanation of the meaning of the stanzas is given and the related meditation techniques are introduced.

There will be frequent excursions into the history of Indian thought with exploration of the following scriptures and related meditation techniques:
  • yogasutra
  • samkhya karika
  • brahmasutra
  • bhagavad gita
  • upanishads
  • yoga vasishta
Why:
  1. The understanding of yogic philosophy is a key aspect of the yogic path. Without this understanding, you do not know what you are doing and where you are going.
  2. Through reflection and contemplation, the tenets of yogic philosophy can be integrated into one's life.
  3. Once this is properly done, inner freedom is possible.
What not: It is not possible to gain a comprehensive understanding of yogic thought in 20 odd classes, since it is an organism that has grown over 10,000 years. To cover each of the aforementioned scriptures will take about 2 years each. We can however, gain an understanding of the fundamentals after a minimum of 6 months study.
Prices:
6 months course: with homework & examination $625
  without homework & examination $375
Full payment is due prior to commencement of course.
